Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice late to seize a shock advantage. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
